bbc wiltshire

Near Stonehenge, we stayed at a small, out-of-the-way place called Orcheston. On the way there, we pulled to the side of the road to have a look at our map and saw this chap pacing about the area, wearing a fluorescent vest and carrying a red, egg-shaped object. Paula asked him if it was a clown nose, which he though was quite funny, and he explained it was the cover for his microphone. Here, he is fitting it back onto his microphone and I am doing a good job looking like an idiot.

He told us he worked for BBC radio and was doing a story on a small roadside cross that marked the site where two soldiers had died when their plane crashed exactly 95 years (to the day) earlier. He then started asking us what exactly we were doing on the side of the road, was quite interested when hearing about our endeavor to cycle all over England, and that led to him interviewing us for BBC radio.

The memorial cross.

One last photo to mark exactly where this unexpected experience took place.
